Compatible IP cameras

Most IP cameras are designed to be interoperable according to the protocols defined by the Open Network Video Interface Forum (ONVIF). This is what makes it possible to connect your IP cameras to VXG and other hardware and software regardless of the brand or manufacturer.

VXG Cloud VMS is compatible with the standard ONVIF protocol for IP cameras. A camera must support at least the ONVIF Profile S, the standard RTSP protocol, the H.264 codec, and optionally the H.265 codec.

ONVIF conformance is based on the IP camera vendor's self-declaration. VXG Cloud VMS has been successfully tested with a large number of camera brands, models, and firmware versions over the last 8 years, all of which were declared ONVIF conformant by the camera vendors.

VXG states that if a camera is declared ONVIF conformant, then VXG Cloud VMS is compatible with that camera. A list of ONVIF conformant IP cameras can be used as a reference. The official list of ONVIF conformant IP cameras can be obtained from the following URL:

Using Direct ONVIF

This method works with any ONVIF camera.

Direct Camera to Cloud

We need to run the Uplink module on a camera for direct camera-to-cloud connectivity. There are 2 options:

Plug-ins

Many camera vendors support 3rd party firmware applications (often called apps or plug-ins). This method doesn’t require integration with camera firmware and requires little support from a camera vendor. The plug-in can be installed on a camera either using the camera Web UI or using tools provided by the vendor.

Here are the requirements from some of the camera vendors to support this method

Vendor

Required technology

AXIS

ACAP- AXIS Camera Application Platform

Vivotek

VADP - VIVOTEK Application Development Platform

Hanwha

WOP - Wisenet Open Platform

i-Pro

i-PRO Camera Application Platform

Hikvision

HEOP - Hikvision Embedded Open Platform

Dahua

DHOP - Dahua Hardware Open Platform

Please check with your camera vendor if the model you plan to use supports the corresponding plug-in/application platform.

Firmware integration

If a camera doesn’t support firmware applications, the Uplink module can be integrated with the camera firmware. The camera vendor can do this using the published Uplink module source code, or VXG can assist you with that. Below are examples of vendors that have been integrated on the firmware level

Homaxi

Longse

Uniview

Grandstream

This method should be coordinated with a camera vendor. Only the vendor can rebuild and distribute a special version of the firmware.
