Alarms

Alarms are created by alarm rules. Open Alarms to review them. The page title is Detection Activity. Use Alarms for alarm results.

Create an alarm rule

  1. Open Settings, then Rules.

  2. Select Add Alarm Rule.

  3. Enter an Alarm rule name, choose a site and at least one camera, and set Alarm trigger.

  4. Optionally choose an AI Mode, then select Submit.

Cloud AI and Gen AI are available only for cameras that have AI Alerts plans attached. If they do not, the form shows Cloud/Gen AI is unavailable for the selected cameras.

A camera can have one active rule AI rule. If an AI rule already exists, the form reports that an alarm rule of this type already exists for the selected camera or cameras.

You can also set when alarms are generated and who is notified. Use Generate alarms and notify at these times and days for the schedule, and Recipients for email addresses or phone numbers.

Alarm triggers

The alarm uses a camera event. Alarm trigger can be:

Trigger

What it detects

Motion

Motion in the camera view.

Line Crossing

An object crossing a configured line.

Intrusion

An object entering a configured area.

Face Detection

A face detected by the camera.

Timer

A check that runs on a schedule you set.

Health Check

A change in camera connectivity or operation, such as the camera going offline or coming back online.

Gen AI

Set AI Mode to Gen AI and enter a Natural Language Query, such as “Is there a security concern?” The alarm is raised when the analysis of the camera image matches that question.

Cloud AI

Set AI Mode to Cloud AI, then choose a Cloud AI Type.

Cloud AI Type

What to set

People

Choose All People, Known People, or Unknown People. For Known People, select at least one face. Face Library opens the saved faces.

Object

Enter one or more object names. Type a name and press Enter. Names may contain letters, numbers, spaces, hyphens, and underscores.

Vehicle

Detects vehicles. No extra name is required.

No AI

If no AI is added to an alarm rule, an alarm will be generated any time the alarm trigger fires, with no AI analysis added.

Filter alarms

The Alarms list starts with the Last 30 days. These filters are above the list:

Filter

What it does

Site

Shows alarms for one site. The default label is Site: All.

Camera

Shows alarms for one camera. The list follows the selected site. The default label is Camera: All.

Alarm rule

Shows alarms for one saved rule. The default label is Alarm rule: All.

Time

Limits the list to Last hour, Last 24 hours, Last 7 days, Last 30 days, or Custom range. For a custom range, set Start. The range runs from that time until now.

Meta tag

Enter a tag in Enter meta tag and select Search. Clearing the field removes the tag filter.

If nothing matches, the list shows No Alarms Found. If no alarm rules have produced results yet, the detail area shows No alerts yet and tells you to create an alarm rule.

Review an alarm

Select an alarm in the list. Its details open in the panel on the right.

The panel shows the alarm time, status, rule name, location, camera, and type. The status is New, Acknowledged, or Resolved.

The image at the top is a snapshot from the alarm. Select it to play the recording from just before the alarm time. A timeline appears under the video. Double-click the video to return to the snapshot.

Use the buttons above the details to update the alarm:

  • Acknowledge marks it as acknowledged.

  • Resolve marks it as resolved. This is unavailable when the alarm is already resolved.

  • Delete removes the alarm.

Gen AI alarms

A Gen AI alarm includes two extra fields:

  • Gen AI request is the natural language query used by the rule, such as “Is there a hazard or security concern in the front yard?”

  • Gen AI description is the analysis of the image, such as “Yes, there appears to be a security concern. The image shows a person in dark clothing crouched near the front entrance.”

Other alarms

Alarms that are not Gen AI can show Event tags, such as detected faces. Face results can include Faces, Known Faces, Unknown Faces, and Total Faces. If no tags were stored, the panel says event tags are not available for this alarm.
